ONE SHAPE

Step 1: Conceptualization

  • The brief was to create a 6 second motion design using only one basic shape. I wanted to create a small visual story around the same so I started by visualizing the concept of a mother bird brisking away with her three young kids. I brainstormed about the movement, emotion, and overall composition I want to convey through the design.

Step 2: Choosing the Shape

  • Selected the semi-circle as the primary shape for this motion design project. The semi-circle will serve as the basis for creating the mother bird and her young kids in a visually engaging way.

Step 3: Design Execution- process

  • By drawing a large semi-circle to represent the body of the mother bird. This semi-circle can be positioned in a way that suggests forward motion.

  • Next, creating three smaller semi-circles attached to the larger one to depict the young kids following closely behind their mother.

    • Add details such as wings, beaks, and eyes to each semi-circle to give them a bird-like appearance.

  • Considering incorporating additional elements to indicate movement and speed in the design.

Step 4: Animation

  • To bring your shape motion design to life, consider animating the mother bird and her young kids moving across the screen. techniques like scaling, rotation, and position changes to simulate their brisk movement was used along with a little pun that the last young child bird is finding it difficult to follow the speed of its family.

Step 5: Final Touches

  • Finally I added colors, added textures and a plain background to focus and enhance the storytelling aspect of the scene.

  • For the pun, I tested different aniimation speeds and transitions to find the most impactful way to convey the sense of brisk movement in your design.
